Rebuilding Broken Walls: Compact with City Elders by Bob Linn

OCPAC ~ CITY ELDERS Advancing our political agenda
Book Recommendations | | Rebuilding Broken Walls: Compact with City Elders by Bob Linn | Oklahoma has a reputation for being a strongly Christian, conservative state. If we are to believe Mark Levin’s Conservative Review scorecard, that luster has faded. Even without far-left Democrat Kendra Horn (who scored a 0%), our Washington delegation averaged under a 50% rating. Conservative Review gives Oklahoma an “F.” | Without a doubt, America’s cultural demise has had its impact right here in our beloved Oklahoma and it will require more than legislation to correct. Transformation must begin with Oklahoma families and the education of our children. Cultural theologian Dr. Joseph Boot, Ph.D., states that “To transform the course of the future, the minds of the young must be regained and captivated by Christ and his word at the local and private level. This involves the recovery of Christian schools. It requires a distinctly Christian education.” ~Dr. Joseph Boot, The Mission of God, P 434
Are we moored in God’s revelation, or do we follow the example of our first parents? Adam & Eve preferred to reason apart from the revelation they received from their Creator. The unmasking of our Washington congressional delegation by Conservative Review’s analysis combined with the Conservative Index of our state legislators indicates we need a bit more wisdom Sunday mornings from Oklahoma’s pulpits. Oklahoma’s future rests squarely on the epistemological foundations of its people. History-changing power is found in the way we educate both the pew and the classroom. To quote the twentieth century’s most important theologian, Cornelius Van Til, “When man thinks in self-conscious submission to the voluntary revelation of the self-sufficient God, he has therewith the only possible ground of certainty for his knowledge” | Twentieth century scholar and educator, J. Gresham Machen was a Princeton professor. He was passionate that Christian’s must mold the thought of the world for the sake of the future. He bemoans the insurgence of secular thought into America’s educational institutions and the impact that this will have if we do not regain control of our universities, our seminaries, and our secondary schools. His words one hundred years ago are the message Oklahomans need today: | "What is today a matter of academic speculation begins tomorrow to move armies and pull down empires. In that second stage, it has gone too far to be combated; the time to stop it was when it was still a matter of impassioned debate. So, as Christians, we should try to mold the thought of the world…The Church has no right to be so absorbed in helping the individual that she forgets to help the world.”
~J Gresham Machen, Christianity and Culture, P 8
An apostate education leads to cultural decline. To quote Dr. Machen one more time, “The Christian cannot be satisfied so long as any human activity is either opposed to Christianity or out of connection with Christianity. Christianity must pervade not merely all nations, but also all of human thought.” ~J Gresham Machen, Christianity and Culture, P 6 | Oklahoma's low rating in Levin’s Conservative Review and the State-level scores reflected in our own Conservative Index (see below) are rooted in the way we educate our children. From elementary school through the university, we need reform! Without strong messages of Biblical wisdom from our churches and a Christian-based education the other five days a week, our conservative luster will continue to pale.
It is my hope that OCPAC’s partnership with City Elders will enable us to find our way home in this state. I hope you all can come Wednesday and meet Jesse Rodgers in person! |

2019 Conservative Index A tale of Political Ideologies | | Perfect Scores by Oklahoma's Top Four Legislators Pictured Above | | The 41st edition of the Conservative Index is now a part of Oklahoma’s political history. The index stands on the shoulders of forty years of conservative journalistic leadership. We owe our thanks to the publishers of the Oklahoma Constitution Newspaper. It was the Constitution’s general manager Ron McWhirter and editor Steve Byas who sorted through the legislative maze of the 2019 spring session. They do this every year. The purpose is to uncover the guiding political philosophy which informs each individual law-maker.
It is a laborious process to find 10 defining votes which most clearly casts a light on the working principles which guide our lawmakers. These ten unveiling votes were uncovered in a forest of nearly 1,000 votes.
To help with the process, both the Oklahoma Constitution and OCPAC leadership solicited help from a few of Oklahoma’s legislators. This year, Senator Nathan Dahm (Tulsa), Senator Rob Standridge (Norman), Representative Tom Gann (Wagoner), and Representative Jay Steagall (OKC, Yukon) provided input in the process.
Once the Constitution had done its initial work, there were two sessions with the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee (OCPAC) to discuss the merits of the legislation being considered for the index. This was the focus of the OCPAC meetings on July 10 and July 17. On July 17, the OCPAC members cast their votes on which of the bills to place on the index, which is now available to our readers.
Find the ranking of your legislators and a description of the ten bills we used to evaluate their political ideology here. Go to the Oklahoma Constitution for more information here. | | The OCPAC compact with City Elders is significant for both organizations. Most importantly, it is significant for the future of Oklahoma. It is important that you come this Wednesday to meet Jesse Rodgers and hear him explain what these two organizations can expect to accomplish in the next few years.
