THE ODYSSEY AND OKLAHOMA POLITICS |
Last week, my grandson took me to see Homer’s The Odyssey, a three-hour movie which has grossed over $1 billion in theaters in a short time. |
Many give Homer (8th Century: 750-700 B.C.) credit for having provided, to some extent, literary foundations to the development of the West.
It has been said of Odysseus, the story’s protagonist, that he is without those moral values that Moses wrote about 600 years earlier. Yet, in spite of his lies, boasting, and remorseless killing, the story develops appreciation for his unusual capacity for stealth and survival.
Some say there is a Christian element in the story. According to comments in the National Review:
Homer’s poem does not celebrate defiance; it tells the story of a man who breaks a sacred law and spends the rest of his life answering for it . . . to burn the walls of Troy, Odysseus comes to understand, is to burn the world entire. |
One writer called the Trojan Horse a symbol of original sin and the entire story “An epic in which the household is holy, marriage endures, the stranger is owed his due, and no man escapes the order above him.”
Perhaps I see in The Odyssey a reflection of Oklahoma politics because of the complicated moral contradictions within the characters as the story works its way to a conclusion.
The most obvious image of Oklahoma politics is the movie’s opening scene and its famous Trojan Horse.
The pejorative “RINO” and Senator Jett’s clever term “trans Republican” find in The Odessey’s Trojan Horse their most complete image of the contempt they wish to express for what has become a common practice these days: Democrats registering as Republicans as their only option to secure political victory. |
Because of the rapid shift of the Democrat Party to the extremities of political leftism and socialism, it is understandable that the label Democrat is now anathema in the mind of Oklahoma’s once Democrat voting public.
Two of Oklahoma’s highest and most important offices (Governor and Superintendent of Public Education) now each feature men with strong ties to the Democrat Party and far-left ideology running as GOP.
Not surprisingly, they have endorsed each other’s candidacy and with that endorsement affirm the radical ideas expressed in the book which has been touted on the campaign trail, Separation of Church and Hate, a book whose assaults on the Bible were scholastically debunked years before it was written and certainly is at odds with the OKGOP platform.
In opposition to the GOP platform, the book these candidates are so comfortable with advocates the affirmation of the normalcy of the LGBTQ agenda, the affirmation of the moral sanity inherent in the aborting of boys and girls yet to grow out of their fetal formation, and the affirmation of open borders. |
Seven hundred years after The Odyssey’s introduction of the Trojan Horse into literature, Virgil would embellish and present an even darker side to Homer’s horse story. In his Aeneid, Virgil would shift the literary perspective from the lens of Homer’s triumphant Greeks to the opposing viewpoint of the Trojans and their demise.
Virgil condemns the clever maneuver of the Greeks Homer portrays. Virgil sees it as a moral violation of a public and sacred trust.
This is how Oklahoma’s “Grass Roots Conservatives” view the infiltration of their political party by those who espouse agendas which are in opposition to historic American values.
When our pulpits and our universities find their way home to their Scriptural foundations, America will once again have a Biblically literate public in possession of political competency and the discernment to see past labels. A public able to make wise choices inside the voting booths of America. |

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR CALLS REPUBLICANS FASCISTS |
This past week a man who calls himself a Republican, but who isn’t even certified as such by his state's own official Republican party, called conservative Republicans who disagree with him “fascists” and “extreme.” Commenting in a public forum, Oklahoma’s Attorney General and current gubernatorial candidate, Gentner Drummond, said the following while attempting to justify his propensity for supporting left-wing policies and politics:
I aspire to be governor of all. That sometimes draws me in sharp contrast with the extreme members of the Republican Party. But I don’t think they are real Republicans; I consider them more fascist.
Aside from this ranking right up there with Hillary Clinton calling conservatives “deplorables,” Barack Obama calling us “security threats,” Joe Biden calling us “Nazis,” and Michael Bloomberg saying we “lack grey matter,” one just has to wonder what exactly it is about his Oklahoma neighbors that Mr. Drummond considers to be of such great concern? What exactly is it that warrants calling millions of hard-working people across the Sooner state “extremists and fascists”? |
Could it be because “real Republicans” disagree with Mr. Drummond? Could it be that we don’t like his liberal track record and he, therefore, doesn’t like us? Could this be why he finds so many of the ranchers, farmers, pastors, and parents of heartland America to be too “extreme”? For example, many conservatives across the state disagreed when Mr. Drummond, in 2023, decided to strike a deal with the ACLU to “temporarily” halt enforcement of our state's ban on the child abuse of gender transition procedures.
Does he believe that our defense of our own sons’ and daughters’ hearts, minds, souls, and bodies against the butchery of this god awful agenda makes us “fascists?” Are we “extremists” for drawing the obvious conclusion that the only reason Drummond changed course on this issue two years later was for the sake of calculated political pandering and his gubernatorial aspirations? Or maybe it’s our belief in the rule of law. Are we “fascists” because we, rightly, raised an eyebrow when Mr. Drummond recently said:
If you're an illegal immigrant in Oklahoma and obeying the law (as self-refuting statement if there ever was one), I don't have any concern for you. I wish you to have success…
???!!!
Is the fact that we don’t agree with his call for amnesty for those who entered our state illegally what he thinks justifies putting us in the “extreme” camp of fake Republicans? |
Or perhaps Mr. Drummond considers us “extreme” because we completely disagree with him partnering with radical left-wing activists such as the Freedom From Religion Foundation to deprive Oklahomans of their right to select a state-approved charter school as one of their schools of choice simply because its name is St. Isidore’s?
Maybe our stand for the First Amendment rights of religious parents to choose a religious school that aligns with their religious values is what makes us “fascists” in Mr. Drummond’s mind? |
Or maybe it’s because we want our public schools to just teach our kids the basics of science and civics rather than spending endless time and money indoctrinating them in Critical Theory and its ancillary agenda of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Is our stand against this reverse discrimination what makes us “fascists”? Does Gentner Drummond think we are “extreme” because we just want the schools we pay for with our own tax dollars to stop with the politics and, instead, focus on teaching our students how to read, how to write, and how to do basic math calculations?
IS THIS WHAT MAKES US “DEPLORABLE” IN HIS MIND? And then there’s the fact that many of us find it peculiar, to say the least, that a man who claims to be a conservative Republican contributed to Joe Biden in 2020 to defeat Donald Trump.
IS THIS WHAT MAKES US “EXTREME”?
Does our objection to Mr. Drummond also donating money to numerous other Democrats in his efforts to defeat noted conservatives such as Senators Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe, as well as Congressman Jim Bridenstine make us “fascists”?
Does pointing out that all this smacks of sheer hypocrisy make us unredeemable rubes and enemies of good government by Gentner Drummond’s way of thinking? And finally, there is Mr. Drummond’s 2018 support of Chris Brecht for Oklahoma’s Judicial District 14 judge.
Mr. Brecht is the attorney who obtained Oklahoma's first gender-nonbinary birth certificate. His legal priorities include attempts to defeat an Oklahoma Senate bill that protects the rights of Christian adoption agencies to place children in homes that share their Christian values. Is our objection to this man too “extreme”?
ARE WE “FASCISTS” FOR NOT WANTING SUCH A PERSON TO RULE OVER US AS JUDGE? |
The list is nearly endless, but here’s the take-home: By calling conservatives who simply disagree with him “fascists, extreme and fake,” Genter Drummond can now boast of being a new card-carrying member of the same club as Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
But one suspects he’s really been there all along. |
