Published Monday, March 30, 2026 | | SEND THIS NEWSLETTER TO A FRIEND HERE. | | | THIS WEEK WEDNESDAY APRIL 1 NOON OKLAHOMA HISTORY CENTER | Senator Shane Jett will moderate the panel discussion of the legislation which will be finalized this week in the House and the Senate. | | THE ROOTS OF AMERICAN ORDER | When Russell Kirk wrote his book, The Roots of American Order, his purpose was to restore to the conscience of the nation its Christian character and to remind his 20th century audience that those ancient roots require watering in order that the soul of man and the soul of society might continue to flourish. | | All of this remains the purpose of the Oklahoma Freedom Caucus, the Reaganesque presence in the Oklahoma Legislature. It was a Democrat Senator from Norman, Oklahoma, who made the case for its Reagan-like policy when she spoke to the Oklahoman.
Milton Friedman condensed Reagon’s policies to include smaller government and lower taxes. This defines the economic elements of the Freedom Caucus backbone. | Of course, Reagan’s war with communism overshadowed by far his specific economic policies and represented the heart and soul of his passion for eliminating government from interference in the lives of people. He was a devout Christian who took delight in poking fun at the feigned atheism of America’s enemies. | | Reagan was a culture warrior par excellence. He led the culture war by framing his political agenda as a defense of American values. He defended family, faith, and freedom.
By contrast, the Oklahoma Senate’s leadership determines its agenda based, for the most part, as an accommodation of the financial backing of the lobbyist class. | | This means backroom deals and favoritism to those Senators who play ball based on the well understood but unwritten laws of the lobbyist.
Hence, when the Oklahoman reported on their interview with Democrat Senator Mary Boren, they wrote:
Boren said if the Freedom Caucus wins power, she believes they'll do a better job of ensuring all bills are heard regardless of party affiliation . . . Boren said members of the far-right caucus would also be less likely to cater to lobbyists and large corporations. | | More importantly, and to the point of my opening statement about the soul of America and the role Reagan played in its restoration, the Oklahoman ended its article quoting the Senator from Norman (Mary Boren) that if the Senate were controlled by the Freedom Caucus:
It would also mean more so-called “culture war” bills would advance along with those reducing government services.
I want to end the newsletter with comments from OCPAC Foundation board member, William J. Federer, on the vital role of Christianity and culture in the American political structure.
BUT FIRST
I asked Freedom Caucus Chairman, Senator Shane Jett, to describe the events which have created such a firestorm over the past few weeks in the Senate. | | OKLAHOMA DESERVES BETTER THAN LOBBYIST-DRIVEN DEADLINES
As the dust settles on another deadline weekend in the Oklahoma State Senate, Senate President Pro Tempore Lonnie Paxton has taken to the airwaves and social media to blame the Oklahoma Freedom Caucus for the failure of dozens of conservative bills to receive a hearing. | | The accusation is not only false—it is a deliberate distraction from the real story: an entrenched leadership cabal that controls every minute of the legislative calendar, prioritizes lobbyist wish lists over grassroots priorities, and then points fingers when the results expose their mismanagement.
LET’S START WITH THE FACTS ON THE GROUND
SENATE LEADERSHIP DECIDES:
When session begins and ends
Which bills are scheduled for committee and floor debate
How long those debates last
How many questions members may ask. | | This year, that power was used to start many days late and—except for one night—end them early.
On the final night of deadline week, the gavel fell at 4:30 p.m., leaving seven full hours of scheduled session time unused while conservative bills sat on the agenda.
The House, by contrast, routinely worked past supper on multiple evenings to finish its business. The Senate could not be bothered.
TIME THAT COULD HAVE BEEN SPENT ON LEGISLATION WAS INSTEAD SQUANDERED.
During the heart of deadline week, the Senate floor was surrendered for a full hour to the president of the University of Oklahoma and his regents so they could deliver an animated pitch for more taxpayer dollars and “grandiose goals.”
That performance, which could easily have been scheduled for a slower week with no looming deadlines, was a textbook example of poor time management.
Meanwhile, critical conservative legislation—Second Amendment bills, pro-life measures, and dozens of others—languished. | | COMMITTEE SCHEDULES TOLD THE SAME STORY
The Senate Revenue and Tax Committee failed to meet during the first week of session and will not meet again this week to hear House bills.
The Education Committee also skipped its first week.
Roughly 200 bills were shunted to the Rules Committee, which met only once in four weeks and heard just 14 measures—four of them Democratic priorities. Conservative bills were simply not on the menu.
THE PATTERN IS UNMISTAKABLE
Bills backed by well-heeled lobbyists who fund leadership dinners, campaign accounts and PACs move forward.
Grassroots conservative priorities supported by everyday Oklahomans do not.
House bills that needed only one Senate vote to head to the governor’s desk—some sitting since Day One—were ignored.
When Democrats stall, leadership cuts deals and grants extensions.
When conservatives push back, they receive the middle finger and public scolding.
Paxton himself has been strangely absent from much of the floor action, even though he can vote remotely from his office. He has hired additional staff yet still misses votes while lecturing others about “not working.”
His lieutenants, including committee chairs, have resorted to name-calling—labeling Freedom Caucus members “tax collectors” and worse—because they cannot compete in the arena of ideas.
When you control the schedule, the committees and the clock, it is easy to manufacture the narrative that someone else is the problem.
OKLAHOMANS
Oklahomans did not send us to the Capitol to rubber-stamp lobbyist agendas or to watch university presidents give campaign-style speeches on their dime.
They sent us to pass meaningful reform, protect constitutional rights, defend life, and restrain government spending.
Instead, Senate leadership has created a system that blocks conservative members from even attempting to do their jobs, then blames those same members for the resulting inaction.
ENTER THE FREEDOM CAUCUS | | The Freedom Caucus will continue to fight for the priorities that matter to the people who elected us. But the time has come for honest accountability.
Senate leadership owes the public a transparent explanation:
Why so many conservative bills were buried
Why deadlines were treated as suggestions
Why lobbyist influence continues to outweigh constituent demands.
Oklahoma deserves a legislature that works full days, hears all voices, and puts taxpayers—not special interests—first.
Anything less is an abuse of the trust we were given.
~ SENATOR SHANE JETT Chairman, Oklahoma Freedom Caucus | The following article from William J. Federer’s American Minute represents the clear indication that Christianity if the foundation of America and she cannot hope to survive with her people’s liberties intact without it. | | WESTERN CIVILIZATION IS INSEPARABLE FROM CHRISTIANITY'S MORAL FRoAMEWORK
WILLIAM FEDERER AMERICAN MINUTE | | What you are about to read is research Bill Federer has done regarding the intersection of Christianity (culture) and government at the highest levels of government.
Current senate leadership, an Oklahoma State University political science professor The Oklahoman quotes, and our educational system advocates a political process disconnected from the Biblical foundations of Western culture.
Author, Speaker, and cultural activist, William J. Federer begs to differ!
Aside from his own ministry (The American Minute history), Mr. Federer is on the Board of Advisors of the OCPAC Foundation. I wanted you to enjoy some refreshment from the annals of American through Bill's research. | | PRESIDENT WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT
President William Howard Taft had stated at a missionary conference in 1908:
"No man can study the movement of modern civilization from an impartial standpoint, and not realize that Christianity and the spread of Christianity are the basis of hope of modern civilization in the growth of popular self-government." | PRESIDENT WOODROW WILSON
In 1923, in his last public address, titled The Road Away from Revolution, President Woodrow Wilson warned:
In these doubtful and anxious days, when all the world is at unrest ... the road ahead seems darkened by shadows which portend dangers ...
Ground for the universal unrest ... is not to be found in superficial politics or in mere economic blunders.
It probably lies deep at the sources of the spiritual life of our time ...
We call ours a Christian civilization, a Christian conception of justice ...
Our civilization cannot survive materially unless it be redeemed spiritually.
It can be saved only by becoming permeated with the spirit of Christ and being made free and happy by the practices which spring out of that spirit. | | PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT
President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated October 6, 1935:
The 400th anniversary of the printing of the first English Bible is an event of great significance ...
We trace not only a measurable increase in the cultural value and influence of this greatest of books, but a quickening in the widespread dissemination of those moral and spiritual precepts that have so greatly affected the progress of Christian civilization. Franklin Roosevelt addressed the 8th Pan American Scientific Congress, Washington, D.C., May 10, 1940:
At the Pan American Conference at Buenos Aires ... we discussed ... that the Americans might have to become the guardian of Western culture, the protector of Christian civilization.
Franklin D. Roosevelt stated at the Dedication of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, September 2, 1940:
There is another enemy at home ... that ... mocks at ideals, sneers at sacrifice and pretends that the American people can live by bread alone.
If the spirit of God is not in us, and if we will not prepare to give all that we have and all that we are to preserve Christian civilization in our land, we shall go to destruction.
Franklin Roosevelt stated on Labor Day, September 1, 1941:
On this day - this American holiday - we are celebrating the rights of free laboring men and women.
The preservation of these rights is vitally important now, not only to us who enjoy them - but to the whole future of Christian civilization.
President Roosevelt wrote August 22, 1942:
A state of war exists between Brazil, on one hand, and Germany and Italy on the other hand ...
The action taken today by your government has hastened the coming of the inevitable victory of freedom over oppression, of Christian religion over the forces of evil and darkness. | | JOHN F. KENNEDY
John F. Kennedy wrote to Brazil's President, January 31, 1961:
To each of us is entrusted the heavy responsibility of guiding the affairs of a democratic nation founded on Christian ideals. | | BRITISH PRIME MINISTER WINSTON CHURCHILL
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill stated June 18, 1940:
"The Battle of France is over.
I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin.
Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian civilization. Churchill stated July 14, 1940:
We are not fighting for ourselves alone.
Here in this strong City of Refuge which enshrines the title-deeds of human progress and is of deep consequence to Christian civilization;
here, girt about by the seas and oceans where the Navy reigns, shielded from above by the prowess and devotion of our airmen, we await undismayed the impending assault.
President Truman introduced Winston Churchill in Fulton, Missouri, March 5, 1946. Churchill stated:
Except in the British Commonwealth and in the United States where Communism is in its infancy, the Communist parties or fifth columns constitute a growing challenge and peril to Christian civilization. | | PRESIDENT GROVER CLEVELAND
President Grover Cleveland described December 2, 1895:
Occurrences in Turkey have continued to excite concern ...
Massacres of Christians in Armenia and the development there and in other districts of a spirit of fanatic hostility to Christian influences naturally excited apprehension ...
Serious loss and destruction of mission property have resulted from riotous conflicts and outrageous attacks ...
Cleveland added:
Several of the most powerful European powers ... have assumed a duty not only in behalf of their own citizens and in furtherance of their own interests, but as agents of the Christian world.
Their right to enforce such conduct of Turkish government as will refrain fanatical brutality, and if this fails their duty is to so interfere as to insure against such dreadful occurrences in Turkey as have lately shocked civilization. On December 7, 1896, President Cleveland stated:
The disturbed condition in Asiatic Turkey ... hideous and bloody ... rage of mad bigotry and cruel fanaticism ... shocking ...
We have been afflicted by continued reports of the wanton destruction of homes and the bloody butchery of men, women, and children, made martyrs to their profession of Christian faith ... | | In 1909, Theodore Roosevelt warned:
I believe that the next half century will determine if we will advance the cause of Christian CIVILIZATION or revert to the horrors of brutal paganism ... The choice between the two is upon us. | | FIND MORE FROM WILLIAM J.
