Breaking the Chains of Forced Ideology

When Donald Trump employed the term “Common Sense” in his inauguration speech, it seemed to serve as a description of the thematic center of the next four years of American life.  He has since used it a number of times.

It had been a central theme for Reagan as well.

In a 1975 interview, Johnny Carson probed the former California Governor and asked for a highlight of his time as Governor.  Reagan responded:

Well, first of all, it was proving that something I long believed as a citizen would work. That you could introduce common sense into government.

This interview 50 years ago could air today

and be completely up to date in

every word that was said!

For me, the phrase "common sense" was a huge breath of fresh air when it was delivered at the inauguration on January 20.  We all heard again from the President after last week’s disquieting and tragic disaster over the Potomac.

Watch the White House video here.

As you all know, the President has been criticized for indicating that the DEI hiring practices likely figure into the accident in some way.  Before I comment further on DEI in American culture, I want to clarify that the President also articulated the likely fault of the Black Hawk's helicopter crew.

Both the Wall Street Journal and Fortune Magazine noted the President's comments about the potential errors of both the helicopter crew and the control tower staff.

The tragedy last Wednesday night shocked the nation and brought profound grief to hundreds all around the world.

However, just as COVID uncovered the nature of the American classroom to millions of parents, this tragedy has exposed, in a tangible way to every American, the perilous impact of applied leftist ideology.

Last week, we discovered that the WOKE ideology that is casting its shadow over the American cultural landscape has for many years been applied to federal hiring policy for air traffic controllers.

The President made public a January 14, 2025 memo regarding the FAA’s hiring priority’s saying:

The FAA’s diversity push includes focus on hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities.

In a second memo, he read to the nation that the:

FAA is actively recruiting workers who suffer severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems and other mental and physical conditions under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agencies website.

Reports indicate that more than 90% of America's control towers are under staffed. There are currently more than 1,000 FAA applicants who have filed lawsuits against the FAA for being turned away because of race-based hiring.

For the majority of Americans, the President’s inaugural speech awakened the nation from an Orwellian nightmare. (I was relieved to hear that government now recognizes only two genders.). The Wednesday night crash brought to light the degree to which ideology had been translated into policy.

For more than a decade, governmental policy, the courts, the entertainment industry, business, and education have told us what common sense tells us is nothing more than a world of imaginary nonsense akin to Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

Carroll’s anthropomorphic creatures are no more fanciful than the imaginary 74 genders articulated by the members of America’s medical community who are the apostles of identity confusion and hysteria.

See two doctors assure us there are 74 genders here.

Five years ago, Dr. Carl Trueman wrote his acclaimed The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self.  It was, in his own words, an effort to determine the answer to this question:

How and why has one particular statement come to be regarded as coherent and meaningful:

“I am a woman trapped in a man’s body.”

Trueman pointed out that tolerance of those who promote the bizarre concepts of America’s identity revolution was not enough for them.  They demanded society-wide acceptance of their Americana in Wonderland’s psychological man.  Theirs is a mankind defined not by a divine creator by man himself.

The German-American political philosopher, Eric Voegelin, spoke of the nefarious cultural revolutionaries who seek to re-order the world after their own imaginary reality.

He wrote this in 1968:

In order, therefore, that the attempt to create a new world may seem to make sense, the order of being must be obliterated; the order of being must be interpreted as under man’s control. It requires further that the transcendent origin of being be obliterated: it requires the decapitation of being – the murder of God.

The nature of a thing cannot be changed; whoever tries to “alter” its nature destroys the thing.  Man cannot transform himself into a superman; the attempt to create a superman is an attempt to murder man. Historically, the murder of God is not followed by the superman, but by the murder of man: the deicide of the gnostic theoreticians followed by the homicide of the revolutionary practitioners.

Orwell’s thought police of his 1984 novel have manifested in the 21st century American thought police of the political left.  Last fall, they were voted out of political power in America.  Time will tell if the common sense of Reagan and Trump can eviscerate the thought tyranny from our institutions.

I had intended to devote this issue to our third U.S. President, Thomas Jefferson.  Popular thought is that he was a Deist.  However, Jefferson is known to scholars who have studied him closely, as the most religious of all our Presidents, devoting himself daily to the  study of the Bible, writing about his devotion to Jesus of Nazareth, and both privately and publicly speaking of his confidence that God rules in the affairs of men and nations.  All these defined him over the span of his lifetime.

I mention him today because, like Orwell who would come after him, Jefferson hated the tyranny of men over the thoughts of another.

Quoting from a private letter the President wrote to Dr. Benjamin Rush dated September 23, 1800.  He wrote:

For I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.

~TJ to Benjamin Rush, September 23, 1800

In October of 1801, the Danbury Baptist Association praised the president’s views on liberty.  They wrote to him expressing their hope that his views would prevail till Hierarchy and tyranny be destroyed from the Earth.

For most of us, the most tangible way we can become involved in eviscerating this nation from the forces of WOKE ideology is to become involved in the remediation of our schools.  It is where our next generation are taught values, what to think, how to think, and the truth of our past.

On that point, OCPAC Foundation board member, Wade Burleson, published Measuring U.S. Decline Using Nebuchadnezzar.  It is a fascinating read about the reasons for American schools to re-discover the book that founded Western Civilization, founded the American colonies, and influenced the lives and speech of each of our U.S. Presidents.
