OCPAC Weekly Insights 4/22/19
| | 1. At OCPAC: Americans for Prosperity
This national organization is committed first to the concept that the welfare of a nation is dependent upon limited government and the freedom of it's citizens to build their own lives as they wish. To work hard and to reach for the stars without the interference of government and its bureaucracies.
This concept has broad implications covering issues of labor law, energy policy, healthcare, and economic policy. These will all be addressed this coming Wednesday.
Included in their presentation will be their commitment to parental authority in education. They believe that, "Choice, competition, and innovation in education that allows parents the freedom to decide what is best for their child create greater opportunity for every child, but especially for those most in need of a brighter future." | | Join us THIS WEDNESDAY! Making Parents Great Again by Bob Linn | | Our nation’s cultural decline is rooted in issues of church, state, and family. Three divinely ordained institutions called to function under the banner of the Lordship of Christ. This week’s OCPAC presentation will be provided by Americans for Prosperity. Among other things, they have a passion to re-establish parental authority over the third, and most fundamental, divinely ordained institution, the family. It is the take-over of familial responsibilities by our federal and state governments that have contributed to our cultural demise.
The unconstitutional and improper roles that have been assumed by our state and federal government are legion. The deadliest is the usurping of the educational authority of the family. Education is the family’s primary business. If this is not set straight soon, we will become another Venezuela.
Our government schools are churning out “graduates” extraordinarily weak in grammar and mathematics, but steeped in cultural Marxist theory. Government schools have trumped America's Sunday schools.
Axios media surveyed close to 3,000 Americans to find out if they had positive reactions to socialism. 58% of 18 to 24-year-old respondents were positive. Actually, 27% of those 65 and older were also positive. Are these perceptions based on their study of socialist regimes? No! These are the results of minds shaped in the government classroom. | In 2004, education researchers Dr. David Steiner and Susan Rozen studied the textbooks used in 16 of the most prominent teacher-education schools in America. The study revealed that the primary texts used were by leftist radicals promoting Marxist ideology. Among the mainstays was the writing by Brazilian socialist, Paolo Freire, father of the “teaching for social justice” movement. The standard portfolio of texts also included works by the radical education writer, Jonathan Kozol. In these 16 leading schools for teacher education, the leading text on teaching methods was To Teach: The Journey of a Teacher by former Weather Underground terrorist and lifelong Marxist, Bill Ayers. | Helping to uncover the realities of the American educational swamp is Sol Stern. His writings on education helped shape New York City’s education reform movement.
He is the author of Breaking Free: Public School Lessons and the Imperative of School Choice (2003). His articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times Magazine, Sports Illustrated, New Statesman, and many others.
To expose Jonathan Kozol, one of the radicals who is preparing your children’s teachers, Stern wrote a fascinating article titled, America’s Most Influential-and Wrongest-School Reformer.
He states, "Kozol's mistaken but hugely influential diagnosis leads education advocates to keep proposing still more of the wrong cure, while the real causes of school failure—the monopoly public education system, the teachers' unions, and the ed schools—go on wreaking their damage unimpeded ... schools keep on failing."
| The enemy within our own nation’s educational system is not new. For two centuries now, Christianity has had an enemy in the secular faith of the Enlightenment (17th and 18th century "intellectual" movement emphasizing individualism and a skeptical posture toward Christianity). The secularism of the Enlightenment has given birth to a number of perverse offspring. Communist ideology is the most prominent. The fascination today’s millennials have with Socialism is spawned by the Enlightenment. Socialism represents an idolatrous, statist cult and is being spoon fed to our children by our government schools.
The fundamental presupposition of the founders of the American colonies was that the Bible is the Word of God and, hence, the foundation (beginning) of all knowledge. Government education (Monday through Friday school) has trumped America’s Sunday School’s and given us more than one generation whose ultimate presupposition is that man is a creature of natural (not divine) order.
The solution is not to reform government schools, but to return to the American family the God-given mantle they have forfeited. We must return to parents the authority to determine the content of their own children’s education. This is called “the money follows the child.” Educational choice. Choice where the parents, not the state, get to choose.
We collect tax money from a wide variety of sources to guarantee every child in Oklahoma has the opportunity to receive an education. We need to make sure this is spent on an education authorized by their parents.
Crafting a child’s education is more than a fundamental parental right. It is a fundamental responsibility. One of the objectives of American’s for Prosperity is to do just that. Return to the parents the authority over their family’s education and all the cultural elements that includes.
Please join us this coming Wednesday to hear American’s for Prosperity discuss these and other issues. As always, we get quite a bit of political commentary (and education) as Charlie Meadows delivers his famed weekly “rant." We also benefit from the political updates of Stephen Black, director of First Stone Ministries. | WEEKLY BONUS: CHARLIE'S RANT! | Last week, Charlie spoke about the fact that all government systems are capitalist. It is just a question of whether the capital is controlled by the individual citizen (free enterprise) or by the State (Socialism).
Charlie never fails to shed light on Oklahoma politics from his well-reasoned perspective. This coming week, Charlie will expand on Socialism and issue a challenge to our young people. | Join us at OCPAC. If not eating our $7 lunch, we ask for a $2 donation to Olivet Baptist Church to pay for utilities. THANKS! | I'd like to invite you to bring your children and grandchildren to the weekly OCPAC meetings. Build a foundation for the role of Biblical thought in their political views. Only as we train our future leaders will we be able to anticipate the maturing of the Kingdom of God expressed both through the church and through the State. | HELP RIGHT THE SHIP IN OKLAHOMA! The Oklahoma County Assessor website is second to none and provides an impressive array of information. Find it here.
All OCPAC videos are placed here. | | DAN FISHER The Black Robed Regiment | | Dan Fisher is one of Oklahoma's most powerful orators. His Black Robed Regiment presentation is one of the most interesting and inspirational I have ever seen. It is right up there with Hal Holbrook's Mark Twain.
With the help of a multimedia presentation, Dan Presents the story of Pastor John Muhlenberg's key role in the American War for Independence as General Muhlenberg. So important were the pastors in this war that the King of England referred to the war as a Presbyterian Rebellion. Dan's vision is that the church in America will regain the "spirit" of the many 18th Century pastors known as The Black Robed Regiment. May God use Dan's presentation to do just that!
This coming Sunday, Dan will be presenting this at Fairview Baptist Church of Edmond in the 10:30 AM morning service. If you are able, it will be a Sunday morning you will not soon forget. | | Walmart Launches Gay Dating Ad | | Join American Family Radio's petition to ask Walmart to end their promotion of Sodomy! See the Walmart ad which explicitly promotes as wholesome that which God calls an abomination here.
| | PRUDENT JUSTICE JUDGE BILL GRAVES | | My first read from Judge Grave's Prudent Jurisprudence left me immediately impressed with perspectives I had never heard. His research is deep, original, and unravels the very foundations of the decay of American jurisprudence. For the first time, I understand the relationship between major academic and cultural shifts and the American court system. It is an educational and satisfying read. Judge Graves will be speaking to OCPAC soon, so order your copy today and have him sign it when he speaks at OCPAC. Find it here. | | NOT A DAYCARE Continues to sell! | | Dr. Piper is one of God's choice men. He is leading the way in the American Church and in the American Christian University by calling for a return to epistemological bedrock. I urge those of you who have not read his book, Not A Day Care: The Devastating Consequences of Abandoning Truth, to order a copy today. It is available very inexpensively here.
